How Do I Become an Affiliate?
You want to become an affiliate, and you are not sure where to start.
By the end of this guide, you will know what an affiliate is and what an affiliate has to provide. You will know the two ways to become one, with their steps, and which page to read next depending on what is stopping you.
We do guided affiliation, which belongs to the second way. Other ways of doing this exist, and they are not wrong for being different.
What an affiliate is
An affiliate is someone with their own tracked link, who receives something depending on what the program counts on that link.
What is counted, and what you receive for it, is written in each program's terms.
The word is also used for the programs of a given brand. Here, we mean the person and their link.
What an affiliate needs, whichever way they take
Five things, the same in both ways:
- The content: what you show.
- The account: where you show it.
- The link: your own tracked link.
- The people who see it.
- Keeping it regular.
The question is not whether you have all five today. It is which of them you provide yourself. That is what separates the two ways.
The first way to become an affiliate: sign up to a program and provide everything yourself
- Choose a program and read its terms.
- Get your own tracked link.
- Make what you will show.
- Find where to show it.
- Bring people to it.
- Keep doing it.
What you provide, point by point:
- The content: you make it. That means choosing it, filming it, editing it and writing the caption.
- The account: yours, set up by you, and it can be one you already have.
- The link: you get it from the program, once it has accepted you under its terms.
- The people who see it: you bring them, whether by building an audience or by another way.
- Keeping it regular: yours, on top of the four above.
What it does well: you choose what you show, and which program you join. What you build along the way stays yours, and it works for whatever you do next.
What it asks: all five, by yourself, from the start.
The second way to become an affiliate: a model where part of it is provided for you
In some ways of doing affiliate marketing, part of the five is provided for you. Which part, and how much is left to you, depends on the model, and is written in its terms. Guided affiliation is one of them, and it is the one we do.
Its steps, as they appear on our work page:
- You fill the form.
- We create an account with you, step by step.
- We set up the profile, the bio and your own tracked link.
- New videos land in a folder that is yours, every day.
- You post them from your phone.
- We count the clicks on your link.
What you provide, point by point:
- The content: we make it, captions included.
- The account: we create it with you, separate from your own.
- The link: your own tracked link, set up by us.
- The people who see it: you do not need followers of your own.
- Keeping it regular: yours, in about 15 minutes a day. It is the one part we cannot take off your hands.
What it asks as well: you do not choose the videos or the account, since we assign both. Our affiliates post on Instagram for now.
