A Side Hustle Alongside Full-Time Work: What Fits Into a Working Day
You already work full time. You would like a small extra on the side. By the evening, there is not much energy left.
The useful question is how many minutes you really have, and when. You can find those moments in your own day and see what fits into them.
We are Gravity Brand, operated by GBA SAS, a company registered in France. One of the activities below is ours. We describe it on the same terms as the others.
We look at each activity in the same way: the time it asks, including the time to get ready. We also look at the moment of the day when it can happen.
Where the free minutes are in a working day
The three moments below are examples, and your own day will have its own.
The commute: it gives you a few minutes, often with your phone in hand. There is rarely room to concentrate for long.
The break: it gives you a little more time, but that time is often interrupted.
The evening: it is often the longest free moment of the day. It is also often the one with the least energy left.
These moments are short. What matters is the time each activity asks, and whether it fits into them.
What fits into a few minutes, and what needs your evenings
Guided affiliation, our offer: a few minutes at hours you choose
Time it asks: about 15 minutes a day, in a few short moments, at hours you choose. We set up the account and your own tracked link with you, step by step.
Getting ready: we make the videos and we write the captions. New ones land in a folder that is yours, every day. There is nothing to prepare before posting.
When: it fits into the commute, the break or the evening, as it suits you.
What it does not give: you do not choose the videos or the account. We assign both to you. You do not pick up filming or editing, since we make the videos.
The posting has to be regular. Accounts get restricted sometimes, and we help you recover them or we replace them.
The model is explained step by step in our guide to guided affiliation.
Micro-tasks and surveys: a few minutes each, at any moment
Time it asks: each task usually takes a few minutes, and you can stop after one.
Getting ready: some of those minutes go to finding the next task. Part of the time is spent before the task itself.
When: they fit into any moment of the day, the commute included.
What they do better than ours: there is no setup with anyone. There is usually no regular commitment either.
What they do not give: they do not give you a skill. Little builds up from one week to the next.
Short videos for brands: usually a calmer moment to film
Time it asks: usually a quiet moment and some light to film. Then it takes time to find brands and deliver.
When: filming tends to happen in the evening or at the weekend, when you have a calmer moment.
What they do better: you choose what to film, and you pick up the skill as you go.
What they do not give: they rarely fit into a commute or a short break.
A small service sold online: usually longer blocks of time
Time it asks: usually longer blocks of time, and deadlines set by the client.
When: the work tends to happen in the evening or at the weekend.
What it does better: the skill stays yours, and you can offer it somewhere else.
What it does not give: it rarely lets you pick your minutes day by day. Clients set the deadlines.
Building your own audience: usually whole evenings
Time it asks: filming, editing and posting by yourself, usually over whole evenings.
When: it takes evenings and weekends, more than short moments.
What it does better: everything you build stays yours, from the audience to the name.
What it does not give: it rarely fits into a few minutes here and there.
We also compared these activities on what each one asks to get started. See our ranking of the easiest side hustles to start from your phone.
Plan your own working day: a template to fill in
Fill it in with your own moments, as they are today. Nothing in your day has to change for it.
| Moment of the day | How many minutes, honestly | What would fit there |
|---|---|---|
| Commute | ||
| Break | ||
| Evening | ||
| Other |
Then take each activity you are considering through these three points.
- It fits into moments I already have, without taking a whole evening.
- I can give it a few minutes on most days, not only on good days.
- I know what to do in those minutes, without preparing first.
What fits into your columns is what you can start now. The rest can wait for a time when you have more room.
