Can I Do Affiliate Marketing With Just an Instagram Account?
You have an Instagram account, and nothing else: no website, no audience built for selling. You want to know if that is enough to start affiliate marketing.
It is enough for one thing, and not for everything. By the end of this guide, you will know which one, and you will have four things to check before you start with your own account.
We do guided affiliation. Our affiliates post on Instagram, on an account we create with them. Other ways of doing this exist, and they are not wrong for being different.
What an Instagram account gives an affiliate: a place for the link
Shopify's guide to affiliate marketing on Instagram, updated in September 2026, counts the bio and links in stories among the places an affiliate link can go. It also notes that a link does not go in an ordinary post.
So the bio carries the link, and a post points to it.
That is one of the things a website used to do, and it moves well. We go through the others in can I do affiliate marketing without a website.
If you post Reels, Instagram also has tools of its own, under conditions. We go through them in how can I earn money with Instagram Reels.
What an Instagram account does not give: something to post every day
An account is a place, not content. Every day, there has to be something to put on it.
That means choosing it, filming it, editing it and writing the caption. On your own account, all of that is yours to do.
What an Instagram account does not guarantee: people who see it
A link works only if people see it. An account on its own does not guarantee that they will.
That is the question of followers, and we set out four ways to answer it in affiliate marketing without followers.
What changes if the Instagram account is your personal one
The people who see a personal account are likely to be people you know. Affiliate posts then sit next to your own life, in front of them.
Some people are fine with that, and some are not. It is your account, and the choice is yours.
How guided affiliation uses Instagram
In guided affiliation, our affiliates post on Instagram, but not on their own account. We create one with you, step by step. It stays separate from your own, and your personal accounts are never involved.
New videos land in a folder that is yours, every day, with their captions. We set up the profile, the bio and your own tracked link. You do not need followers of your own.
What is left to you is posting, regularly: about 15 minutes a day.
Four things to check before you use your Instagram account for affiliate marketing
- Where will my link go?
- What will I post every day?
- Who will see it?
- Do I want it to be my personal account?
Answer them for your own account. There is no wrong answer to the last one.
